National Park Service
Disaster Response Resource Advisor - US Virgin Islands
Overview
I was deployed to St. John, US Virgin Islands post hurricanes Irma and Maria as part of the National Park Service Incident Command System Response Team ad a Cultural Resources Advisor (READ). The island was devastated by back to back category 5 hurricanes.
My role was to carry out initial assessments of historically significant cultural resources within the Virgin Islands National Park. My efforts resulted in rapid condition assessments of over 200 historic structures and associated briefing documents and reports needed for immediate decision making and mitigations and to be used in future recovery and rehabilitation efforts.
Additionally I monitored the museum collections compromised climate control system in an effort to conserve the collections on site.
